Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run

The sun came out on Sunday 14th July 2013 for the fourth Wythall & Hollywood Fun Run. This year saw a 10K race added for the first time which proved very popular with the runners. Matthew Smith was the winner with a time of 36:47. Our winning lady in 43:27 was Holly Chipman. Alex Quinn took the prize as our junior winner.

There was also the 5K race which saw Rich Bayliss and Sue Street-Hall coming in as winners closely followed by our junior winners Ben Jones and local girl Leah Spencer. The fastest five runners from a running club competed for the first time this year for the Club Challenge. Our winners here were Bourneville Harriers.

The 1.5K fun run around the park for the families proved as popular as ever. Families of all ages and generations along with their dogs and push chairs having a great time. Hollywood Primary School scooped the Inter Schools Cup for the second time much to the delight of their teacher and coach Martyn Ryan.

Fusion Gymnastics entertained us with a wonderful display. Coppice School Under 7’s and Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Club Under 7’s played a tightly contested tag rugby match

We had 750 registered runners for the three races and their families and friends joined us for what turned out to be a glorious day. We were delighted with the results; receiving lots of positive feedback.

A photo album of the day can be found here.

We are thrilled with the money that was raised – approximately £5,500!  This is more than last year and I am sure our designated charities and groups will be delighted with the donation they will receive. This year they are:

  • Wythall Community Association towards  the upkeep of Wythall Park
  • Wythall Animal Sanctuary towards a new dog isolation unit
  • Fusion Gymnastics Club towards new gym equipment
  • Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Club towards coach education courses
  • Meadow Green Primary School
  • Coppice Primary School
  • Hollywood Primary School

We really appreciate how supportive the local community have been. Cheering the runners on and creating a lovely friendly atmosphere. Phoenix staff were on hand to provide water on the Phoenix site on Middle Lane and  Cormac from Rosebank Stores proved to be popular with the runners by  running a water station and cooling the runners down with a hose pipe. The staff from Spar at Drakes Cross revitalised the runners with free bananas at the finish line.

Special thanks must go to WCA for their support again, to all the Marshalls, Volunteers, Scouts for the BBQ, Guides for the refreshments, Traffix for the road closure, Phoenix for all their support, Spa and Des Ashby for the PA system.

The date for 2014 has been confirmed as Sunday 6th July. We hope that we can rely on your support again.
