Welcome to Wythall Community Association.
Norman Howarth, MBE
We are sad to announce the death of Norman who spent much of his life working tirelessly for the Wythall Community Association, and was its president for over 20 years.
He died on 19th August 2017 at the age of 92, still actively working for the future of the Association.
Norman had been a member of Wythall Community Association since 1970. He worked as a volunteer to provide Wythall & Hollywood with the best possible facilities for use by the local and neighbouring residents.
We were delighted when it was announced in the New Year Honours 2009 that Norman was to receive an MBE for voluntary service to the community in Worcestershire.
As Chairman and Secretary he has served his community to the best of his ability. His enthusiasm and leadership skills have directed and encouraged others and his methodical working has ensured that the records of the Association are accurate and well kept. He was an active member of most sub-committees over the period as well as helping to organise events – Bonfire Night, Carnival, Entertainments (St Patrick’s, Halloween etc); he was involved in the early years in altering the property from a farm to the Park and buildings we have today, both physically and on planning committees. As a “doer” he was Chairman of the House & Park (maintenance) Committee for many years turning his hand to any job that needed to be done. He remained an original member of the Health & Safety Committee, which tries to look after our employees and volunteers. He embraced technology learning to use the computer then computerising and maintaining the membership records of some 2000 members.
And as well as all that he and his wife, Doreen, had a great family life, with their children, Peter, Stuart and Lesley.
Sadly Doreen died in 1990 but Norman continued his work with the Association and enjoyed his grandchildren and many friendships which were so important to him.
We send our condolences to his children, their partners and the grandchildren and thank his family for their support.
His funeral will be held at Redditch Crematorium on Tuesday 26th September, 2pm, and afterwards at Wythall House.
The family have asked that donations be made in his memory to “Wythall Community Association” via JustGiving at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/normanhowarth or the collection at the funeral.

Wythall Community Association manages Wythall House and Park for the benefit of the local community.
As a registered charity we raise funds by hiring function and meeting rooms and we provide various sports pitches which are managed by relevant sporting clubs.
The Wythall Community Club was formed in order that members could raise funds socially for the benefit of the Association.
Why not join and become a member?
We are based at Wythall House on Silver Street and manage the 37 acres of parkland known as Wythall Park.
Membership of the Association is open to all residents of Wythall and the surrounding area.
As the Association is a Registered Charity it is governed by Trustees who are either representatives of local organisations (e.g. WI, Scouts etc) or are nominated from within the membership. All are volunteers as indeed are most of the people who maintain the land and buildings of the Park itself.
